53rd Zambia International Trade Fair Participation

The 53rd edition of the Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) was held on 28th June to 3rd July in Ndola, with the theme, “Innovation for Industrialization.” IHS Zambia participated in the event which attracted over 600 local and international exhibitors. IHS Zambia had a chance to raise awareness of its core business to potential new customers and the general public.

IHS Zambia Co-sponsors Umutomboko Ceremony

IHS Zambia co-sponsored the Umutomboko Ceremony to support community building and enhance the preservation of cultural heritage in Luapula Province and Zambia as a whole. The Umutomboko Ceremony of Mwansabombwe, is the biggest traditional ceremony in Luapula Province. This year’s ceremony was graced by the presence of  His Excellency, President Edgar Lungu as the guest of honour. The ceremony held annually, took place in Mwansabombwe District, Mwata Kazembe's headquarters on the last Saturday of July. Mwansabombwe has a population of 54,879 people and the ceremony attracts local people from various districts across Zambia as well as tourists.

Update on policies and procedures

The Zambia team continues to focus on distributing the new policies and ensuring all staff members understand any and all new procedures relevant to their day-to-day work. In Q3 the following six policies were circulated:

  • Authority Matrix Policy for your use circulated on 5th September, 2017
  • Information Security Policy circulated on 23rd August, 2017
  • Inventory Policy circulated on 9th August, 2017
  • Per Diem Policy circulated on 21st July, 2017
  • Cash Advance Policy circulated on 26th June, 2017

CEO Breakfast

IHS Zambia held its first quarterly breakfast meeting with the Managing Director on September 15th at the Lusaka Intercontinental Hotel. The breakfast was a big success and focused on ongoing operations projects as well as the business’ annual goals.

Kapete Primary School Renovation Project

IHS Zambia embarked on the Kapete Primary School renovation project, in June 2017 and completed it in August 2017. The project objective was to create a healthy and conducive learning environment and the official handover ceremony held on 15th August 2017. The Ministry of Communications and Transport Communications Director, Mr. Yese Bwalya was invited as  the Guest of Honor at the event. The scope of work for this project was:

  • Rebuilding of a 1x2 classroom block
  • Complete plastering of all the classroom walls and floors
  • Replacement of all windows and window frames across the entire school
  • Replacement of nine classroom doors
  • Improvement of sanitation and hygiene facilities at the school; four toilets for the girls and boys were upgraded
  • The Head Teacher and Assistant Head Teacher’s offices were also given a face lift
  • Replacement of a new black board

IHS Zambia supports the Rotary Club of Muluba Gala Dinner

IHS Zambia partnered with the Rotary Club of Maluba to sponsor ten tickets and a page advert at their annual Induction Gala Dinner. The Rotary Club of Maluba (Lusaka), the largest Club to be chartered  in Lusaka, seeks to uplift and strengthen vulnerable communities.

Generator Recycling Programme

In Q3, IHS Zambia donated three refurbished generators to the Water and Sanitation Association of Zambia (409); the Lusaka Museum (72,000 beneficiaries) and Lukwipa Secondary School (1,062). This initiative helps to curb some of the load shedding challenges experienced throughout the country. IHS Zambia also plans to donate twenty more refurbished generators throughout 2017.

World Humanitarian Day donation to Emmanuel Family Homes

IHS Zambia donated food stuffs to support the feeding programme at Emmanuel Family Homes, an orphanage that serves 352 orphans and vulnerable children from the community and surrounding areas. A box was also placed at the IHS Zambia reception area and staff members were encouraged to donate clothes, toys or any other items that could be useful to the orphanage.
